Designing a Learning Unit
A typical learning unit might have a sequence of elements:
Keep these focused and concise. The lesson plan for an in-person class might need to be pared down.
On-line, you are providing guidance and access to information (remember those tips for evaluating Web sites).
Here's where on-line learning can shine or fizzle. Let students do the work. Provide opportunities for success and failure.
It's a challenge to give prompt and appropriate feedback without making eye contact.
As in person, the student work products can range from multiple choice tests to term papers and Web pages.
Assignment: Sketch out a learning unit. Use the steps listed above as a guide. There is a sample learning unit for you to look at if you wish.
